Substance abuse is a major problem in society especially on health. On an individual level, it can damage your body and mind. There are many negative effects that are caused through the type of entry of the drug. Some effects like inhalants can damage your lungs, livers, and kidney. While others like injections can cause collapsed veins, blood infection, or transmission of diseases like HIV.  Substance can affect a community greatly, if someone is addicted, they may do whatever it takes to ensure they get more. This can lead to crimes like assault, theft, or murder. It also affects the relationships around you and could put a strain or an end to it. This damages your mental health. From society’s view, it can have major problems. Like I previously stated it could increase the spread of diseases. Lastly it could fall into the hands of teenagers and potentially even children.Â
I think I would be able to recognize signs of substance abuse in people I am close with. You have built strong relationships with them so that if something becomes out of the ordinary you will catch on to it. With other people I meet it would be harder as I am not as familiar with them. Media plays a major role in substance abuse. On social media people could fall into peer pressure/influence or have better accessibility to it.Â
