The role of an epidemiologist in emergencies might be understood via taking example of 
following contaminations that plagued USA in last few years but, the adverse effects of which 
could be reduced/inhibited by epidemiologists in a perfect mode: 
1. In 2011, owing to the Listeriosis (infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes) 
outbreak from cantaloupes from Colorado  30 people died. 
  
2. In the same year, Salmonella heidelberg infection could also spread in a number of 
states of USA and Ground turkey products from “Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation” were 
suspected as the source of this infection. 
3. Besides food contaminations, United States’ citizens have also faced “The Enbridge or  
Tallmadge Creek oil spill” which was caused by a break in “Enbridge Energy pipeline” on 26 
July 2010, in Calhoun County, Michigan.
