Space Mission - Presentation
15% of your mark.
The space missions are available on Brightspace, where you can choose your favorite.
Presentations can be made in groups of 4 students and should be 8 minutes
maximum. Usually, each slide should present 1 idea and is typically 1 min. long.
Therefore, aim to prepare around 8 slides for your presentation.
Content of the presentation:
1. Give an introduction. Start with very simple facts, such as key players (e.g.,
NASA, ESA, JAXA, SpaceX, etc.). Describe the mission (past, present or
planned?), the tools used (e.g., rovers, telescopes, etc.), and give an overview
of the timeline of the mission.
2. For past or cu
ent missions: give the key scientific discoveries. What was
discovered during the mission? Why is this discovery important?
3. For future missions (planned, or have launched but not a
ived yet at
destination): describe what are the mission objectives /goals, how they will be
ca
ied out, and why do we care about the mission?
Some tips for your presentation:
• Prepare your presentation in advance so that ideas are logically organized.
Writing an outline helps. Make sure to address all the important points (see
document about Mission report – Instructions on Brightspace).
• Consider writing a sentence of each slide with the takeaway message (main
message of that slide).
• Avoid using small fonts, try to use 28 point or larger.
• Graphics used should be properly referenced.
We are all exited to hear your presentations. We understand however, that for some
of you, presentations might be stressful, and again, this course is meant to have fun.
If you do not want to present live during the class, you have the option of preparing a
pre-recording your presentation. The recorded presentations will be played BY YOU
during the lecture. You will be able to do this by sharing your screen during a zoom
session and playing the recording. Do not send us the movie recordings. Make sure
that you and your team is present during the class so that you can answer potential
questions after we play your recording.
Preparing your RECORDED presentation
This document gives information on how to record an oral presentation, for those
who prefer this option instead of presenting live during the class. The tool you use to
uild your presentation is entirely at your discretion, but keep in mind that you will
need to convert your slides into a movie that will be displayed during our zoom
sessions.
How to convert a ppt presentation to a movie
The tools/software that you can use to record your voice for a presentation are the
following:
Microsoft PowerPoint. Gives you the ability to record a na
ation to accompany your
slides, and then export the resulting combination as an MP4 file. (PowerPoint for
Microsoft 365 for Mac or Windows, PowerPoint 2019 for Mac or Windows,
PowerPoint 2016 for Windows, PowerPoint 2013 for Windows.) Access this function
using the option called “Record Slide Show” under the Slide Show tab, and when
you’re satisfied with the result use “File-Export-Create a Video” to export the
presentation with audio as an MP4 file.
Apple Keynote. Provides a voiceover na
ation function to add audio to each slide.
Click on Document button, the Audio tab, then choose “Record”. Press Escape to save
the recording the exit the presentation. Play the presentation to ensure you like it,
then use “File-Export To-Movie” to save the slideshow. Make sure you select
“Slideshow Recording” from the Playback menu and save the resulting file.
Zoom. Allows you to record a meeting, so you can have a meeting with yourself,
ecord it, and then upload the resulting recording. Start a meeting in your personal
meeting room, click on the “Record” button and choose to record locally (your
computer). Use the “Share” button to display your presentation, remembering to
check the “Share computer sound box” if your presentation already includes
na
ation, sound, or video. Turning on your video is optional, but you can na
ate your
presentation as if you were running a meeting, then click either “Pause/Stop
Recording” or “End Meeting” when you’re finished. Access your recordings from your
account, trim the video and download it in MP4 format.
Prezi. This has two different ways to create a video with audio na
ation from your
presentation. You can either click on the “Create Video” option in the top-right corner
and choose to record your voice while you navigate through the content or import
your presentation into the Prezi Video application and use the “Content only” view at
the bottom of the screen. After you’re done, trim the video and download it in MP4
format.
Tools like TechSmith SnagIt, Panopto (Mac and PC), FlashBack Screen Recorder
and QuickTime Player all have the capability to record your screen (in some cases
along with your webcam) and save the resulting file in one of the formats listed above.
