Students are required to submit a 3-4 page essay XXXXXXXXXXwords) that contains 10-15 citations from only the course textbook: Citations from the course’s power-point slides will not count as part of the 10-15 required citations. Each citation must have the author’s name, year of publication, and date, for example: (Hobsbawm 1994:43). The essay should be submitted via email. The essay should have a cover page that includes the student’s name, email address, ID number, course name, professor’s name and date of submission. The essay should have a table of contents indicating page numbers of the major sections. The format and bibliography should be completed via the APA style or the Chicago Manual of Style. Guidelines for both can be found online. But if you use the APA style then you must still insert citations in the text of the essay – as in the reading assignments.

*Late essays, following general GBC rules, will have half a letter grade deducted per day and will not receive any comments
*The citations for the essay should come from the course textbook. Citations should NOT come from powerpoint slides or websites. Citations from websites will not be counted as part of the required 20-30 citations.
You can not submit an essay from another course for this course.

The article Facebook: Friend or Foe (Torttier 2013:10) gives a better understanding of how the society is now regulated by the social media and taking the example of Facebook, the author describes that Facebook which is considered a friend to the world is not exactly a friend, but it is the foe in the while society. And this argument provides us with a better understanding of how the modern society which is so dependent on social media is getting misled by making them believe that social media is a friend of the globe which connects the world. The author’s argument is better than all the other arguments which are made in favour of social media because Facebook is the spying machine which is invented (Emmett 2012:31)

Facebook surveillance (Butler 2010:46) made an argument that when the jersey of Warne Gretzky was stone from a shop in Ottawa, it was the help of Facebook, that the shoplifter was identified on Facebook, and later got caught.
Counterargument
The above-mentioned argument can be true, that shoplifters can be identified is correct but at the same time, this surveillance is also causing lots of problems which means the spread of wrong information and false history about the people who are not engaged, which are also punishable offences (Protalinski 2011:2), also it is the company which decides if they want to give the information on the hatred which is spread by the people on the social media (Cheng 2010:30), therefore this argument doesn’t make sense, and we cannot consider Facebook as an investigative surveillance help
