Introduction: You have been hired by a foreign company as a Culture Consultant, that has recently expanded into your home country and is seeking to better understand the culture there. The company has asked you to write a summary about your culture, so they can better understand you and work with you in the future.
Write a two-page summary (maximum – essentially 4 paragraphs), explaining the required information below.
Required information:
1.) Description of culture. Research the origins of your home culture to describe behavior and culture in all its dimensions: holidays, dress, meetings, religion. Select two of your choices to compare to the similarities/differences in Canada. How could this impact international business between the two countries? Do you foresee any challenges?
2.) Breakdown false stereotypes. The company has asked you to reflect on stereotypes of your culture - and stereotypes are often used as an initial assessment when dealing with other cultures. Stereotypes can be derogatory or can be a self-fulling prophecy - that is simply by the fact of being spoken that they become a reality. Describe stereotypes - What are some of the stereotypes about your culture that occur in an international setting and how these are untrue with reference to individuals and perhaps yourself where necessary. How might this impact international business? Describe how these traits and features are not true.
