Do some emotions “belong” to only one gender? Chemaly explores how and why women are not allowed to be angry, and you’ve already seen that women are twice as likely to report suffering from depression as are men—which may have something to do with men not being allowed to exhibit sadness.___________________________________________________
This unit's discussion, as follows:
1. Write about all of the ways you can think of that emotions are gendered. Are women and men allowed and encouraged to exhibit certain emotions, and discouraged from exhibiting and feeling other emotions? Include at least two examples from your personal experience.
2.Use the Chemaly reading for this week (and lecture, if it helps) to provide analytical perspective about the ways in which emotions are gendered.
