Cultural project Objectives. Through this research project, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the
culture studied.
Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the
culture studied.
Compare the culture studied an their own.
Culture Project Standards
Culture Standards promote an understanding of the relationship between the practices and
perspectives, and the products and perspectives of the culture studied. It is through the intersection
of these “three Ps” that students can gain a deeper and more robust understanding of the target
culture.
Overview
Students will select a topic related with the Spanish-speaking world and present it providing
examples of the 3Ps (Product, Practice, and Perspective) and the comparison between the selected
topic with one similar on its own culture (American, Japanese, Armenian, etc).

Practices—are patterns of social interactions, behaviors. Practices involve the use of products. They
epresent the knowledge of “what to do when and where” (p. 50) and how to interact within a
particular culture.
Products—are the tangible or intangible creations of a particular culture. They reflect a culture’s
perspectives.

Tangible products: paintings, a cathedral, a piece of literature, a pair of chopsticks

Intangible products: an oral tale, a dance, a sacred ritual, a system of education, a law

Perspectives—the philosophical perspectives, meanings, attitudes, values, beliefs, ideas that
underlie the cultural practices and products of a society. They represent a culture’s view of the world.

It takes place in Buñol and it is the little village in Spain as the population is only of 10,000 people

It has been observed that the La Tomatina festival is one of the biggest food fight festival and it takes place annually (Ginzburg et al.,). However, due to the pandemic from last year this festival is not taking place. However, this festival is one of the biggest contributors toward the tourism industry where lots of tour packages are offered for the festival and it is needless to say that it is the festival that means lot to Spain.
