ounding with language, religion, food, clothing, music, arts and social practice. As global business continues, the needs for understanding cultural norms and social values have become a growing core business issue for the industry to address. Understanding cross-national culture could help leader, employees and organisation to do business internationally. Cultural differences have a significant and
oad impact on companies’ decisions and practices in international trade. However, this assignment will analyse the socio-culture environment impacting on business management in India. To be successful in India as foreign investors should be mindful of local culture, customs and history.
Understanding India background:
The Republic of India, located in southern Asia. Its shared border with seven countries China, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar (Burma), Afghanistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. There is the world highest mountain range, rise in the north of the country called Himalayas (India location Map 2020).
The capital city is New Delhi the most crowded and cosmopolitan city in the world as well as in Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta). Also, places represent the world fastest growing technologies and software located in Bengaluru (Bangalore), Chennai (Madras) and Hyderabad.

India was a rich country, economically and culturally, there were trading with European countries for spices or cotton textile, until the British a
ived and took control all over the country, which made the economy declined. Due in part to the exploitation and destruction of India’s businesses and wealth.
Greeting and communicating with local Indian:
Communication is the signification tool within the organisation. Effective business communication can help employees and management create a positive image and achieve the business goal. In India, there are diverse cultures and languages but majority of them speak Hindi and English as official language. Indian people have friendliness culture with communicating, they love to talk and asking so many questions about family, personal life that indicate the love and care to their friends and family. In addition, in community there are many conversation that Indian find interest to communicate such as food (vegetarian), films, sports, politics and economic performance. This could be the starting point to engaging the communication and building friendship with local people.
Moreover, in business communication, Cultural Atlas, 2020 mentioned that Indian tend to be polite and indirect communication, especially when they are discussing those they are not close-to. Due-to traditional way of practice, they usually exchange opinions or point of view through negotiation to avoid conflict or confrontation. For example, Indian may struggle to say “no”, as it can convey a rude message. Preferably, they will state like “we will see”, “yes, but it may be difficult”, or “I will try.” Sometimes they just keep quite rather than say “no” directly. As a result, this can be the basic communicating as foreign investor need to be aware and respect of such differences of communicate style.
