Introduction
Gender bias refers to differential treatment of women and men, the impact of which can be negative, positive, or neutral. It occurs because of perceptions, personal values, as well as traditional values on both genders (Chiao, Bowman & Grill, 2008). Therefore, this paper discusses how government benefits from gender biases and gives limelight to legitimate or illegitimate roles in the society in relation to traditional gender roles. Additionally, it analyses the importance of women holding onto prescribed gender roles in Third World Countries and effects of gender roles on both men and women. Finally, it discusses modernization in a democratic society.
How Government Benefit from Gender Biases
Relative to population share, women are unde
epresented in the political arena throughout the world. Although governments have been taking steps to
idge the gap, men who are elected in parliament stands to gain as their voice is followed by majority members and other male members tend to support them hence heightening the gap between men and women (Beaman, Duflo, Pande & Topalova, 2007, pp. 1-2). However, Perez (2010) argues that as the government tries to
idge the gap, more women representatives are being elected in political positions. In that case, women in government gets to gain as women in strong positions tend to be a risk to patriarchal society, which has held control in the US from time in memorial.
