The debate will take place virtually on Thursday, December 2, 2022 and your final essay is due on December 8, 2022
Debate Instructions and Final Essay on the Same Topic
For the final essay and in preparation for the debate, in addition to using materials from the texts we have read, you are to find two to three additional sources of information to help you develop your ideas and to support your argument. Both the essay and the debate are part of your final exam. The questions you will be answering include:
1) Is non-violence the best approach to resolve conflict?
2) Is violence the best approach to resolve conflict?
Debate Format
You will be divided in teams and each team will have 10 minutes to state their arguments. An additional ten minutes will be provided for each team to prepare a rebuttal and to present it. Students who are not part of the debate will contribute by either asking questions or by assessing the teams--these students will create a ru
ic to determine which team presented the stronger argument.
